In her new role as Mana Whakahaere, Karanga will guide the way of the kaupapa Māori sexuality services provided by Te Puāwai Tapu, and work with the Trust Board in planning the future directions for the organisation.

Karanga descends from Nga Rauru Kitahi, Ati Haunui a Paparangi, Whanganui, Te Arawa and Kai Tahu.  She brings with her a life long commitment and experience with Iwi and Māori development in both the social and health sectors. Karanga uses Kaupapa Māori Best Practice Models as the underpinning structure to good governance, strong management and quality operations.

“Sexuality is culturally defined, therefore is central to the institutions of Te Ao Māori. It is paramount to the absolute wellness of individual tangata, whanau and hapu.  I look forward to building on the current strengths of the organisation, and moving forward with new initiatives to support the Māori sexual and reproductive health sector.”
